A 'Famous' Victory
November 2nd 2010 18:52
So 443 days on, Roy Hodgson finally wins an away game in the Premiership and manages a 2nd Premiership win on the run! Can someone please pinch me! Am I dreaming? The answer is no, but I still feel it’s more a nightmare than a dream!
Yes, it’s another victory and 6 points out of 6, but let’s not paper over the cracks:-
1) The team are still not looking ‘Top 4’
2) We are just 3 points above the bottom 3
3) We have Chelsea next week
On the pitch we’re grinding out results now, but I still want to see a little more class and more of the old ‘Liverpool Way’. I just feel this won’t change under Hodgson, who regularly seems to insult and give stupid comments to the press. In fact one I heard after this Sunday was this was a ‘Famous Victory’. Come on Roy, it’s only Bolton!
As for the game, we were very lucky not to concede two penalties, Carragher for hand ball and a shove on Davies by Krygiakos. We also looked out of sorts in front of goal. Both Gerrard & Torres missed chances they would have buried last season and Joe Cole seems to be heading in the same direction Harry Kewell was. Wasting his potential and now getting injured – but let’s hope I’m wrong about this.
In the end I thought Hodgson was going to be happy with a draw, which no doubt he would have claimed a ‘Big’ result. To be fair, I think we dominated possession about 65/45, but a draw would have been a fair result. However, we luckily went one better.
In the 86th minute, Torres clever flick found Maxi Rodriguez and he toe-poked it past the keeper. A 1-0 win obtained and now the clock starts again on Hodgson’s Premiership away wins.
Now it’s time to prove himself against Chelsea, I’m not too hopeful!
