Brum 0 - 0 Liverpool

September 14th 2010 21:23
Sorry about the lateness but I have been in hospital having my head removed from my clasped hands after Sundays bore draw at Brimingham. Many fans welcomed Roy as the manager who would take us away from the Rafa's tactics and unambitious away performances; so what did they get on Sunday? 4-4-1-1 and a carbon copy of Rafa's famous tactics - why push Rafa to replace him with a manager who will carry on with the same formations? Answers on post code to: C Purslow, Anfield L4

Anyway to the game - Roy decided to give a LB a go with the debut of Konchesky (this did lead to our best CB being put on the bench, Agger must be confused) but their was no start for Meireles who had to make do with a seat on the bench. Joe Cole was still suspended leading to Liverpool starting with a dubious midfield of Maxi, Milan, Lucas and Poulsen. Most fans were concerned on seeing this line up and this was proven as Poulsen and Lucas took defensive midfield to a whole new level - at certain points I thought Reina had more chance at crossing th halfway line than Poulsen and Lucas. This defensive approach lead to Brum attacking on a regular basis forcing Gerrard to drop deeper and deeper to try and touch the ball; he dropped that deep at one point his ear drum seems to have burst and blood poured from his head for much of the game.

The deeper Gerrard went the more isolated Fernando became; he spent that much time on his own with the Birmingham defence he had developed a Brummy accent by half time. The only time Fernando saw the ball was when the Liverpool midfield did delicate hoofs up the pitch leaving Torres to out jump and turn 4 Birmingham defender if possible - evidently he couldn't beat Birmingham all on his own and spend much of the game drifting wide to try and find the ball or talking to the crowd in the utter boredom of not seeing the ball on the floor or his fellow team members.

Whilst Liverpool looked idle; Birmingham done well causing Reina to make 3 class saves from headers in the first half - he was like a Spanish Gordon Banks against Brummy Pele's (maybe not!!!!) - strangely enough the Liverpool defence especially Carragher and Konchesky played well all game (well until Paul was injured in the 70th minute). The first half came to an end; Liverpool had used all their luck up and should of been behind but Gordon Reina had saved the day.

Second began and before we knew it it was the 75th minute and virtually nothing of note had happened; I had cracked open a beer and that sums up the highlights up to that point - then Konchesky went off injured so Agger came on to play LB and Meireles replaced Lucas. This then cause some reaction as Liverpool's midfield crossed the halfway line like group of lions chasing down a pack of zebras (trying to make this exciting as the football was bad); Liverpool at this point started pushing Birmingham back and whipping balls in to the box but the changes were late; too late in fact as Birmingham's defence soaked up 15 minutes of pressure. So it finished 0 - 0 and realistically other than Brum's first half shots nothing happened. Well until Roy opened his mouth; Roy came clean at the end of the game admitting he felt Liverpool were never going to win even prior to kick off and we should see a draw as a good result - thats ambition for you; sack one manager for drawing too much and get a man in who wants draws not wins. How confusing!

Anyways Europa League on Thursday so may be able discuss so Liverpool shots or something then - thank the lord for poor European football competitions; how else would I be able to mention Liverpool goals and victories
